Denny, as he was known to friends, was an energetic hard working individual that attend Dayton High School.
Dennis became Vic President of Operations and later President of Newport Steel
Denny served as an Industrial Engineer at Interlake Steel in Newport Kentucky in the 1970/80 era. When Interlake steel closed Denny and a group of three other Metallurgical Engineers/Business Mind individuals got together too purchase and operate Newport Steel.
The funds to acquire the plant were obtained from a HUD loan backed by and supported by the River City Communities of Newport, Bellevue, and Dayton. The then Mayor of Dayton, Gill Lynn, was instrumental in acquiring the loan. The significance of the lone is the money paid back by the corporation was allocated to development of the communities that sponsored the loan. In Dayton this meant the development of the industrial park and the Flood Wall for the city. A tremendous boost to the Dayton Community.
Newport Steel went public in 1988 on the American Stock Exchange, and then in 1990 became the NS Group on the New York Stock Exchange. Through the course of these events the Corporation acquired Multiple Steel related plants throughout the US with plants in Texas as well as Pennsylvania.
Initially the company hired 400 employees and eventually grew to over 1200 employees.
The company was eventually sold to an international group that operates the plant today.
This effort by Denny and friends brought Millions if not Billions of dollars into the community and saved the historic plant in Newport.
