After serving 3 years on active duty including a year in Vietnam, Jim joined the army reserve as a combat engineer. Jim was quickly promoted to Squad Leader, Platoon Leader, 1st. Sargent, and finally to the rank of Command Sargent Major which is the highest rank possible for an enlisted personnel. He led his battalion on several humanitarian missions to El Salvador and Honduras. Jim retired from the military in 2003. Jim also excelled in the private work force. Jim went to work for CG&E as a gas mechanic, he was quickly promoted to Field Supervisor, Area Supervisor, and finally to working in the Gas Engineering Department. Upon retirement in 2003, he was asked by the company to continue part time as a consultant
