Billy as he was known in Dayton earned a Basketball scholarship to Union College, in 1953.
He graduated Union College in 1957. While studying at Union Billy learned of his love for Jesus and he began Seminary School earning a Theology Degree from Drew Seminar, Madison, NJ.
Following many years as a itinerant minister, Rev Dew was appointed as Bishop in the United Methodist Church, for the North West District serving Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska from 1988-1996 and later appointed to the South West District of Arizona and Las Vegas 1996 – 2004.
Bishop Dew was very active as a Human Rights advocate particularly the Migrant Farm Hands in the South West, and the LGBT community as a whole. He was always working for Human rights.
Following his retirement he remained active in the Methodist church serving as an International Liaison and Missionary in countries such as Cambodia. Laos, and Korea.
