Mathematics Teacher 1976-2008
After graduating from Campbell County High School in 1971, Rosann attended Eastern Kentucky University earning her Bachelor and Master degrees in 1975 and 1976, respectively. In the fall of 1976, Rosann accepted a teaching position at Dayton High School where she would become a highly respected teacher of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science for 32 years. She was awarded a Northern Kentucky Golden Apple Award for her dedication to the profession. In 2016, Rosann had the high distinction of being named a “Woman of the Year” by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Mrs. Sharon’s service at Dayton would not only include teaching almost every math course available along with Physics and Computer Science, she also served as a Resource Teacher to new teachers, Math Portfolio Leader and Chairperson of the Math Department. Student clubs she sponsored included the Pep Club, Computer Club, Prom Committee, Freshman Class, Sophomore Class, Senior Class, Yearbook, Odyssey of the Mind, MathCounts, National Honor Society, and the Academic team. She traveled with the senior class to Washington D.C. for years and began the Senior Awards Banquet in 2002. She also began the yearly tradition of painting the underpass on Ervin Terrace to honor the graduating seniors. Mrs. Sharon would be regularly found in the ticket booth at most football, basketball, and volleyball games. She was also a dedicated supporter of the Cross Country team, Softball team and Special Olympics. And, of course, she could be found after school every day in her classroom, tutoring any student that needed help, while also teaching adult education courses early in her career. Rosann opened her home to foreign exchange students, Dayton students who needed a place to stay and to students that needed help. Upon her retirement from Dayton Schools, Rosann was appointed, then elected, to the Dayton Independent Schools Board of Education where she would serve from 2009-2021, many of those years as the Board’s Chairwoman. She, at the same time, began volunteering at Lincoln Elementary School all day, every day until her unexpected death in 2021. Rosann devoted 45 years to the Dayton Schools and truly is one of our best “Greendevils”!
